Ways to Volunteer

Our volunteers construct houses, serve on committees, price ReStore donations, file, answer phones, recruit volunteers, seek donations, give presentations to groups and more. This gift of time allows us to fulfill our mission. Volunteers range from students to retirees, from skilled people in trades to weekend do-it-yourselfers, from church and synagogue members to co-workers from large and small businesses. The common desire is to take part in something meaningful – to help build affordable quality homes for qualified working families.

Construction & Home Building Opportunities

Anyone who can swing a hammer, set a paver, or paint a wall is welcome volunteer on a construction site with Habitat for Humanity. Habitat sets the stage for families and volunteers to come together. A future homeowner partners with Habitat and contributes their own labor, which we call “sweat equity”. Volunteers assist them in providing the support and the “muscle” they need. This allows our homes to be built at considerably lower costs. Our build and repair sites become spaces where bonds strengthen and friendships take root.

ReStore Opportunities

Habitat ReStore volunteers bring new skills and build capacity to help provide discounted building materials and home goods to the community. The funds raised by the ReStore help families and volunteers build, rehabilitate, and repair homes. By giving your time and talents, you can help the Habitat ReStore do more to support homebuilding projects that benefit families in your community and around the world.

Family Support & Financials

Build meaningful connections with future Habitat homeowners throughout their journey to homeownership. Provide supportive guidance and a welcoming presence to help make their transition smooth and successful. Work alongside families as they complete their sweat equity hours, develop sustainable household budgets, and navigate any questions about the process. Serve as a supportive resource and mentor as families achieve their dream of homeownership. If you have expertise in finance, bookkeeping, budgeting, nonprofit operations, QuickBooks, or payroll, you may also find fulfilling opportunities on our Finance or Resource Development committees.

Board of Directors

After showing a demonstrated interest in our affiliate’s mission and goals, an ideal board member will then possess experience and/or knowledge in at least one of the following areas: human resources, planning, fund raising, building, finance, community relations, or organizational operation. Six to ten hours per month is the expected time commitment distributed among board meeting preparation and attendance, related committee activities, and other special requests. Other responsibilities include counseling the executive director, ensuring alignment with the organization strategic plan, and exercising financial controls. Site Acquisition & Development

Volunteers are needed to help our affiliate examine and explore available building lots in our service area. Work with local developers, property owners, and realtors to discuss land options for future projects. Volunteers will gather and collect property-related information, analyze results, and prepare to share pertinent information with the Board of Directors.

Events

Do you like to help with events? Do you have an interest in being a part of the planning and preparation process for events? Volunteers will aid the Resource Development Committee, Administrative Assistant, and Community Outreach Coordinator with the planning and implementation of our future events. Volunteers will meet to discuss details and arrangements of upcoming events and would help with set-up and clean-up of events as well.
